Wayne County was created on March 21, 1798 from part of Northampton County and named for General Anthony Wayne. Honesdale, the county seat, was named for Philip Hone, President of the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company.
As spring awakens across Wayne County, crystal clear streams zig-zag through fields of wildflowers and forests of tall, leafy trees. Summer warms the clean, clear lakes and ponds for fishing, boating and water skiing. Lake Wallenpaupack, about 60 feet at its maximum depth, offers year-round outdoor recreation opportunities, including fishing, boating and water skiing. Whether you crave action and excitement or peace and tranquility, Wayne County has what you need.
Autumn transforms the county into a kaleidoscope of breath-taking fall colors. Explore the countryside and find view after view that is even more perfect than the last. As a fluffy blanket of snow covers Wayne County, cold-weather activities - skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing - abound.
Whatever the season, enjoy every one of them in Wayne County - a county for all seasons!
